Tradesperson Terms
Last updated: 13 May 2026 · Version 1.0
1. Who we are
These terms govern your use of Fix-A(I)LL ("we", "us", "the Platform") operated by:
- Open Source AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales
- Registered address: 228 Borough Road, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, TS1 2EQ
- ICO registration: ZC102296
- Contact: [email protected]
2. Your status
You ("the Tradesperson", "you") use Fix-A(I)LL as an independent business. By creating an account you confirm:
- You are operating as a self-employed individual, sole trader, or limited company
- You are not, and will not be deemed to be, an employee, worker, agent, or partner of Fix-A(I)LL
- You are responsible for your own income tax, National Insurance, VAT (if applicable), and any other taxes or registrations
- You hold valid public liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000
- You hold any statutory qualifications, registrations, or certifications required for the trades you list (e.g. Gas Safe registration for gas work, NICEIC/NAPIT for notifiable electrical work, F-Gas certification for refrigeration)
- You comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and codes of practice in your trade
3. Verification
To list on Fix-A(I)LL you must complete our verification process. This currently includes:
- Photo identification (passport, driving licence, or national ID)
- Proof of public liability insurance (certificate showing policy number and expiry)
- Trade qualification cards or registration numbers where applicable (Gas Safe, NICEIC, NAPIT, F-Gas, etc.)
- Proof of address
You must inform us within 14 days if any of these change — particularly if your insurance lapses or your trade registration is revoked. Continuing to operate on the Platform with lapsed credentials is grounds for immediate suspension and may constitute a criminal offence in some trades.
Verification by us is not a warranty of your competence to customers. It is a baseline check that you appear to meet trade and legal requirements. You remain solely responsible for your fitness to do the work you take on.
4. Lead fees
4.1 When you accept a job, we charge you a flat lead fee of £5.99 from the payment card you have authorised. This is charged immediately upon acceptance.
4.2 The lead fee is non-refundable except in the following limited circumstances:
- The customer cancels the job before you have done any work, and within 24 hours of you accepting it
- The customer is uncontactable for 72 hours after acceptance despite reasonable attempts via the in-app messaging system
- The job is determined by us, in our sole discretion, to be fraudulent or in breach of Customer Terms
- You report a clear duplicate, scam, or test submission and we agree
To request a refund, contact [email protected] within 7 days of acceptance with the job reference and reason.
4.3 The lead fee gives you the right to contact and quote the customer. It does not guarantee the customer will accept your quote or proceed with the work.
4.4 We may change the lead fee on 14 days' notice. New fees apply to jobs accepted after the change.
5. Your obligations
When operating on the Platform you agree to:
- Respond to customer messages within 24 hours of accepting a job
- Arrange a site visit within a reasonable time and agree a final price before commencing work
- Carry out work to a professional standard, complying with applicable codes of practice
- Honour any quote you give the customer (subject to legitimate, agreed variations for hidden issues)
- Provide a receipt and (if requested) a written quote or invoice
- Not solicit customers to bypass the Platform for future work where the customer originally found you through Fix-A(I)LL
- Not subcontract or pass jobs to other unverified tradespeople
- Honour your statutory obligations as a trader to consumers under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and any other applicable law
6. The customer relationship
When you accept a job:
- A direct contractual relationship is formed between you and the customer for the work
- Fix-A(I)LL is not a party to that contract
- The customer pays you directly — we do not handle or hold payment for the work itself
- You are solely responsible for quoting, executing, invoicing, and collecting payment
7. Off-platform conduct
Tradespeople must not, for jobs originating on the Platform:
- Encourage the customer to cancel the job posting and re-engage privately to avoid the lead fee
- Pay or accept payment from the customer in cash without offering a proper receipt and contractual terms
- Solicit the customer's other contacts (neighbours, family) to bypass the Platform for similar work
We monitor for off-platform leakage patterns and may suspend accounts where we have reasonable grounds to suspect this conduct.
8. Reviews and ratings
Customers may rate and review your work on the Platform. You agree:
- Not to manipulate reviews (e.g. by creating fake accounts, soliciting reviews under duress, or offering inducements)
- Not to retaliate against customers for negative reviews
- That we may, in our discretion, remove reviews that breach our Acceptable Use Policy, but we are not required to do so simply because you disagree with them
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:
- You breach these terms
- Your verification credentials lapse (insurance expired, registration revoked, etc.)
- Multiple customers report serious complaints about your work or conduct
- Your customer rating falls below an acceptable threshold we reasonably determine
- We have reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, illegality, or risk to customers or the Platform
- You attempt to defraud us by chargebacks, lead fee evasion, or false reporting
You may close your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. Any in-progress jobs must be completed or properly handed over to the customer first.
10. Liability
10.1 Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by either party's negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
10.2 Subject to 10.1, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Platform shall not exceed the total lead fees you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
10.3 You agree to indemnify and hold Fix-A(I)LL harmless against claims by customers or third parties arising from your work, including but not limited to property damage, personal injury, faulty workmanship, regulatory non-compliance, or breach of your tax/registration obligations.
11. Data and privacy
Our handling of your personal data is covered by our Privacy Policy. You are also a data controller for the customer data you receive through the Platform — you must comply with UK GDPR in your own handling of that data.
12. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email and posted at least 14 days before taking effect.
13. Governing law and UK-wide operation
13.1 Fix-A(I)LL operates across the entire United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). The Operator is Open Source AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.
13.2 These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
13.3 Disputes shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where the law of your jurisdiction (Scotland or Northern Ireland) requires otherwise for self-employed persons or small businesses.
14. UK-wide trade certification schedule
The qualifications and registrations a tradesperson must hold depend on the type of work and the UK nation in which it is performed. You are responsible for holding ALL appropriate registrations for work you carry out. The Platform accepts the following recognised registration bodies. List is non-exhaustive; if you hold equivalent recognised credentials not listed here, contact us at [email protected]:
| Work type | England & Wales | Scotland | Northern Ireland |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gas work | Gas Safe Register (UK-wide) | ||
| Notifiable electrical work | NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA (Part P) | SELECT, NICEIC (under Scottish Building Standards) | NICEIC NI, RECI, ECA NI |
| Oil-fired heating | OFTEC (UK-wide) | ||
| Renewable / heat pump | MCS (UK-wide) | ||
| Refrigeration (F-Gas) | REFCOM, Bureau Veritas, or equivalent F-Gas Cat I/II/III (UK-wide) | ||
| Roofing (industrial) | NFRC, CompetentRoofer (E&W); equivalent in Scotland/NI | ||
| Building control | Local Authority Building Control or Approved Inspector (Building Regulations) | Local Authority Building Standards (Building (Scotland) Act 2003) | Local district council Building Control (Building Regulations NI) |
If you list yourself as offering a notifiable trade on the Platform, you must hold the registration appropriate to the UK nation(s) in which you operate. Working outside your registered jurisdiction (e.g. accepting a Scottish job without SELECT or equivalent) may breach Building Standards and is solely your responsibility.
