Fix-A(I)LL

How Fix-A(I)LL compares to other UK trade marketplaces

An honest look at how our AI-estimate model differs from traditional trade directories and quote-request platforms. We name no competitors here — but if you're choosing between us and another platform, this should help you decide what fits your situation.

The three models

UK trade marketplaces broadly fall into three categories. Each has trade-offs:

Model 1

Trade directory (membership-funded)

A directory of vetted tradespeople. Customers search by trade and area, contact tradespeople directly, and arrange quotes themselves. Tradespeople pay a yearly membership fee to be listed (typically £700–£1,800/year). Customers see a list, no upfront quote.

Strengths: Vetted trades, customer reviews, established brands.
Limitations: No price estimate until you contact 3–5 trades and wait for replies. High trade membership fees passed back to customer prices.
Model 2

Quote-request platform (lead-fee funded)

Customer fills in a description of their job; the platform forwards it to multiple tradespeople; trades pay a fee per lead and call/email the customer with quotes. Customer typically gets 3–5 quote calls within a day.

Strengths: Multiple competing quotes, fast.
Limitations: Customer's phone number is shared widely. Trade lead-fee costs (£10–£40/lead) push up final prices. Spam calls common.
Model 3 — Fix-A(I)LL

AI-estimate first, single-trade match (per-job funded)

Customer uploads photos and a description. Our AI generates a detailed PDF estimate within ~30 minutes for a flat £4.99. A human admin reviews before sending. After receiving the PDF, the customer can publish the job to our marketplace where verified UK trades accept it; the trade pays a flat £5.99 lead fee. No commission on the work itself.

Strengths: Indicative price BEFORE contacting trades. Customer details revealed only to one trade per job (no spam). Trade verification on every listing. Regional pricing applied automatically.
Limitations: The AI estimate is indicative only — the attending trade may quote higher after on-site inspection. We're newer (smaller trade pool than established directories).

When to choose us vs another marketplace

Choose Fix-A(I)LL if…
  • ✓ You want to know roughly what your job costs before contacting a trade
  • ✓ You hate being called by 5 tradespeople competing for your job
  • ✓ You're not in London — we apply real regional pricing, not London-inflated rates
  • ✓ You have a clear, photographable problem (most plumbing, electrical, decoration, building, gardening, roofing jobs)
  • ✓ You want a written estimate as a reference point when negotiating with the attending trade
Choose an established directory if…
  • ✓ You need multiple competing quotes immediately
  • ✓ Your job is highly bespoke and not easily photographable (e.g. complex renovation planning)
  • ✓ You're in a niche location where Fix-A(I)LL doesn't yet have many trades (early stage in many regions)
  • ✓ Brand familiarity is important to you
  • ✓ You want to choose between multiple specific tradespeople by name

What customers pay (typical job)

Indicative customer cost for a £400 plumbing job — based on typical UK marketplace mechanics:

Model Upfront cost to customer Total visible cost
Directory (membership-funded) £0 ~£400 (membership fees absorbed into trade rate)
Quote-request platform £0 ~£400–£450 (lead fees passed through; price often higher than direct)
Fix-A(I)LL £4.99 (or £89/5yrs unlimited) ~£400 + £4.99 fee

Tradesperson rate is set by the attending trade and varies. The figures above are illustrative, not guarantees.

Try it for a real job

£4.99 for an AI-generated, human-reviewed PDF estimate within ~30 minutes. If you decide it's not worth it, you've spent less than a pint. If it gives you a sensible negotiation anchor, you've potentially saved hundreds.
